Cozy Winter Day Musts

While in Georgia I was experiencing some real snow FOMO (fear of missing out). I am not huge on driving in it, or walking in it or really doing much outside in it, but growing up in the midwest winter is not complete without a coating of freshly fallen snow. Snow also creates the perfect opportunity for a cozy day in.

A winter day tucked indoors is much different then those you get on a rainy day in the spring or summer, For one thing, hot coco is readily on hand (and a Christmas film if it is that time of year). I also like the winter days inside because I feel so much less guilty about not venturing outside. While rain can dampen a mood, and cause some road hazards, we never had a rain day in school. And as cold as the weather has to be to see fluffy snow it is still so beautiful.

My Cozy Day Essentials

I have taken my recently snowy days as a opportunity to share some of my favorite cozy items that will allow you to treat yo self!

1. A Comfy Outfit To Snuggle Up In:

You may opt for leggings and a t-shirt, or your comfy mom jeans. I personally have been loving the joggers and a baggy sweatshirt combo. I have never been a sweat pants person, other then a good pair of Adidas, but joggers have been a recent go to. Some people might think, "Girl you are crazy, they are the same thing." but I think it boils down to I would wear joggers out of the house but not sweat pants so why buy them, I already got Pajamas. Many people probably can't relate but hey its your cozy day wear what you want.

The joggers above are from Target, and the big sweater a long ago purchase from American Eagle. My other go to for this look is Old Navy, Gap, or HM (I have gotten some baggy sweaters from their recently and they are the best!)

2. Cozy Feet Wear

Bring out those fuzzy socks! I got these slippers from Bath and Body this past Christmas, which are perfect if you are like me and don't want to get too over heated.

3. Pamper Yourself

Put your hair up in a messy bun and give your skin a break, or better yet nourish your skin. In the winter months it is so easy for skin to dry out, so on top of making sure you have some nice body lotion to help sooth your skin, take this time to do a face mask. Here are a few of my favorites:

Sheet Mask:

TONYMOLY- They offer different types to fit your skin needs, my favorites are the Rose, Red Wine, Honey and Lavender

Exfoliating:

Cup O' Coffee (LUSH)- This has been my go to for years to scrub away dry skin, and the best part is it does smell like a big cup of coffee to make you feel fresh and awake

Clay Mask:

Rosy Cheeks (LUSH)- Another lush favorite that unfortunately you can only get in stores but I love that it soothes your skin, and the fact that you keep in in the fridge makes it cool when applied. Add bonus of lush products is that the use natural cruelty free methods, and always have a great smell signature, this one of course smells like roses

A Little Bit Of Everything:

Yes To- This brand has a little bit of everything, cleansers, sheet make, facial wipes, and is based on your skin needs. You shouldn't have trouble finding what is just right for you

4. A Good Book

I will be honest, I am not much of a reader. I have a select few that I have gotten through and loved but otherwise I am more of a coffee table book type girl (stay tuned for my post all about my favorite coffee table books). Of course I had to share a recent addition to my collection, my icon, and inspiration for this blog, Whiskey In A Teacup by Reese Witherspoon. The book is all about what growing up in the south taught her about life, and features a ton of fun recipes, hostess tips and other items you will for sure book mark. But if you are a reader, I got some help from the reader in my family, my sister, to compile a list for you.

Katie's Book List:

  • Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling (Actually read this one and it is great!)

  • Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

  • Yes Please by Amy Poehler

  • The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis

  • Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

  • Becoming by Michelle Obama

  • Harry Potter by JK Rowling (A Classic)

5. Blankets Galore Or A Snuggly Pup

Who else is a blanket person?! I find that I am never short of blankets, and perhaps have way too many. I always have a blanket on, when I'm sitting watching a movie or typing away at my desk answering emails. But A cozy day in also would not be complete without my other snuggle bug. Kennedy LOVES to cuddle and use me as a pillow of course. I think she enjoys these cozy days as much as I do because I am just sitting down on the couch with her, giving her some tummy rubs.

6. Netflix (Too Obvious?)

Pretty obvious to me that a day spend inside taking time for yourself mean some binge watching. I don't think I have to explain Netflix much or why it is on the list, but I will write down some of my recent go to Netflix Watch list. (Don't have Netflix? Pop in your favorite movie, check of your go to youtube channel, catch up on some tv on Hulu, you get the point; it is all about taking some time for you)

WatchList:

Bird Box

Friends

Santa Clarita Diet

The Mummy & The Mummy Returns

Nailed It

National Treasures

Black Panther

The Dark Knight

I Know What You Did Last Summer

Sex And The City

Buffy The Vampire Slayer (HULU)

Game of Thrones (HBO)

7. You Don't Need Rain Or Snow

While the title might lead you to believe otherwise, you do not need rain or snow to have a day where you are pampering yourself and having the me time that you deserve. We all need a break from time to time, so allow yourself to actually do that. If you delay what your body and mind is telling you what it needs, it only makes it worse. So take the day off, get comfy, and treat yo self!
